Help & FAQ
Quick answers to the most common questions.
Is Stoopd really free?
Yes. No fees, no paid tiers, no cut of your sales. Stoopd never handles money — when you sell something, the buyer pays you directly, in person.
How do I get paid when I sell something?
Payment happens entirely between you and the buyer at the handoff — cash, Venmo, whatever you both agree on. An accepted offer on Stoopd is an agreement to meet, not a payment. After you meet, either of you confirms the handoff and ownership (and the story) moves to the buyer.
How does transferring an object work?
Three ways: send the new owner a claim link (best when you know them), let them scan the QR code and request ownership (you approve it from your transfers page), or accept an offer, meet up, and confirm the handoff. In every case the object’s full history travels with it, and your chapters stay — read-only — forever.
What if the buyer or seller doesn't show up?
Before a handoff is confirmed, either party can cancel the pending transfer (with a reason) from the transfers page — the listing simply reopens. Repeated cancellations show on a profile, so flakiness has a cost. You can also flag a transaction for moderator review.
How do I delete an item?
Object histories are append-only — that’s the point of Stoopd — so items aren’t deleted. Instead, set the item’s visibility to Private in its settings: it disappears from every public surface, browse, and the marketplace, and only you can see it.
My QR sticker is damaged or fell off. What do I do?
Reprint it — the code belongs to the object’s page, not the physical sticker. Go to Labels, select the item, and print a fresh sticker. The old one keeps working too; both point to the same story.
How do I change my email or password?
Both are in Settings. Changing your email sends a confirmation link to the new address — nothing changes until you confirm it there. Forgot your password? Use the reset link on the login page and we’ll email you a single-use reset link.
Is my home location shown to anyone?
Only your city and state, and only if you add them. They power distance search (“chairs within 25 miles”) using approximate city coordinates. We never ask for your street address or GPS location, and photos are scrubbed of GPS metadata automatically.
What happens to my stuff if I delete my account?
Your identity is anonymized — your chapters on objects you owned remain, attributed to “A former owner”. Items you currently own stay on your (anonymized) record and come off the market. Pending offers and transfers are cancelled.
Someone is spamming or harassing me.
Block them from their profile — they can no longer message, offer on, or follow you, and you disappear from each other's feeds. You can also report any user, item, message, or comment; reports go to a moderator queue.
Meeting safely
- Meet in a busy public place — many police stations offer designated exchange spots. For furniture, a garage or building lobby beats inviting a stranger inside.
- Bring a friend, especially for high-value exchanges.
- Daylight hours. Tell someone where you’re going.
- Inspect the object before money changes hands; the price history on its Stoopd page is your friend.
- Keep conversation in Stoopd messages until you’ve agreed to meet — it gives moderators context if something goes wrong.
- Trust your gut. A deal that feels off is a deal to skip.
